The Pressure Women put on Each other!

7 Feb

I’m in no doubt whatsoever that  women put pressure  on other women (whether knowingly or unknowingly) to become fitter, thinner and lighter and to become more ‘commercially beautiful’.  It is very sad that there are women out there who focus so keenly on these things. I have a number of reasons for stating this and one is about personal experience.

My Facebook news feed is bombarded each day with posts by women and for women, which include  pictures of extremely toned female bodies (perhaps even to an un-natural extent) in extremely revealing underwear and sometimes in provocative positions accompanied with slogans such as:

“the best exercise is walking.. Walking away from the kitchen”

“When your struggling, imagine your dream body”

“Dare to be great”

Whilst some of these statements “should” be interpreted in a positive way, their true meanings can easily be lost. By seeing the popularity of such pictures being ‘shared’ around the social networking site I am sad to say that perhaps women are objectifying themselves. In fact, for the less insightful women or for many young girls who are exposed to such slogans and pictures on a daily basis may in fact comprehend that the only way to be ”great” is to look liker the person in the picture.  What is very worrying is the fact that there are so many image conscious people out there . Even more horrifying  is that those who suffer from illness’ such as anorexia  are also exposed to such slogans “walk away from the kitchen”.

As a society we have failed again and even within our sisterhood we have failed each other. How can such young, intelligent and naturally beautiful women be shifting their focus onto their bodies in such a way and to SHARE this focus! Surely, the majority of women know that the only way to true health and beauty is by eating a balanced diet and having regular exercise. We are not machines, we are people!

On a second note: Commercial or artificial beauty: For many years in the U.K, women and now even men have been using fake tans (orange dirt as my partner calls it) that you rub or spray all over your body to give you a tanned look. Extensions, bleaching of hair, gel nails, fake eyelashes and branded make up are to name a few. In my opinion there is no harm in using some things in moderation but there are women out there who use in excess and they believe that their only way to beauty is through these commercial products! how sad…

“God Hates Fags”

5 Feb

Perform a Google search on “God hates fags” and you will find results referencing the  “westboro baptist church”. Before you or I read further into this, you may already see a massive contradiction and perhaps a debatable argument, Does the Christian God Hate and would he approve of such hatred?

The spokeswoman of this ‘so called’ church is Shirley Phelps-Roper. She is often seen in public proclaiming her rants, portraying her hatred towards homosexuals and claiming that God also hates them. She actively insights such hatred onto others, including her own daughters. I beg to ask the questions, why do people feel the need to insight such hatred? Who gives them the right to judge? (interesting point actually as according to Christians, God is the only judge)Surely they can see their actions as being hypocritical!

Could it be that her demonstration of absolute hatred (a possible form of acting out) is the result of a massive amount of repression and perhaps she is in denial of something e.g that she is a homosexual herself? I don’t know the answer as I’ m not a psychologist, however I dare to guess that there is definitely some deep psychological issue going on with this woman which in turn is causing some of the people around her to be brainwashed!

Gay Marriage – WHY IS THIS STILL AN ISSUE?

3 Feb

Further to my recent posts about equality and the role of women in Italian media, I believe it’s time to discuss briefly gay rights. This evening conservative MPs in the Tory government were under pressure to grant a Government bill in support of Gay Marriage (Ref). In fact, I’m quite surprised that this is still an issue since Marriage, in civil law  (in my opinion) should have no religious influence. Perhaps these discussions were necessary in government to straighten out the current laws (no pun intended) but these discussions and arguments are still no stranger to current British and Irish societies. Why do people still get passionate about the subject and is there still a need for Gay Pride celebrations? I suppose it depends where you live, as where I’m from, it is accepted and people make no differentiation or deal out of it!

The Male Opinion

31 Jan

On Monday 28th January 2013 at about 13:00 Italy time I was listening to Radio Deejay Italia. It was a random choice to tune in, and when I did I heard a strange comical type character speak about his father’s nightclub business with the DJs. I don’t believe this character was real nor was this nightclub as it seemed to be a bit of a joke; however, that was not the point.  The issue that struck me was that this character spoke openly and explicitly about his father’s nightclub and the ability to purchase women for sexual favors  The Italian language that was used (and some English words) was filthy.

It never seizes to shock me or surprise me that the fact Italian media, again, are discussing this sort of thing which degrades women (and men to a certain degree) AND doing this at a time when a child could be at home or in the car potentially listening to this radio station. So I decided to discuss this issue with some of my Italian friends who were online on my social network profile.

I had an interesting response from the females, who all happened to be Italian immigrants living in Ireland (except for one) who all agreed with me that Italian media is sexist. I have yet to hear back from men on this matter!  Perhaps the males don’t care enough for this problem and If so, why not? If you are male and you are reading this I would like to propose to you a question: The Italian media represent women in a humiliating way, how would you feel if the veline on strisia la notizia or the girls that were spoke about in a sexual way on the radio were your sisters, your mother or your daughters? OR better still, imagine the tables had turned and females degraded your body in public view, what would you make of this situation?
